My Time in Hackney: Making Sense of the Riots in Urban England

In an attempt to make sense of the rioting that swept through London and urban England last week, Dr Patricia Daley, a lecturer at Oxford University, remembers her teenagehood as a native Jamaican in Hackney, one of London's poorest boroughs and one of the worst-hit by the riots. Her comparison of 1970s Hackney and the North London borough as it is today leads to the ultimate question: would she have achieved success, if she had grown up in today's Britain?
