Research Project brings the University of Bremen to the city's schools.

“Das Gewebe der Sklaverei “ [“The Fabric of Slavery”] is a research project that brings the University of Bremen to the city’s schools. It focuses on the entanglements of the city of Bremen in the transatlantic slave trade.

A series of short lectures by Kwame Nimako (NiNsee Amsterdam), Birgit Hähnel (University of Trier) and Jochen Meissner (Author “Schwarzes Amerika. Eine Geschichte der Sklaverei”) will start the project on January 18. After these, pupils will begin researching archives and museums together with Prof. Sabine Broeck (University of Bremen) to explore the ways the role of the city of Bremen within the slave trade is and/or is not embedded in the city’s memory.
